Exploring the post-apocalyptic ruins of the Commonwealth in Fallout 4 quickly leads players to Concord, where the historic Museum of Freedom stands as a pivotal early-game landmark. This location serves as the backdrop for one of the main story quests, introducing essential factions, combat mechanics, and valuable loot. Understanding how to navigate the building and secure its secrets will set you up for success across the wasteland.

Locating the Museum of Freedom in Concord

The Museum of Freedom is situated directly in the center of Concord, just southeast of your starting location in Sanctuary Hills. Following the main road out of Red Rocket Truck Stop brings you straight into the town square where the grand building stands. You will easily recognize the structure by its patriotic banners, imposing columns, and the sound of gunfire echoing from its front porch.

Upon reaching the exterior, you will encounter a group of hostile Raiders laying siege to the entrance. Clearing these initial attackers is necessary before you can safely enter the front doors. Taking cover behind nearby vehicles and rusted structures ensures you remain protected while eliminating the outer guard forces.

Completing When Freedom Calls Quest

Inside the museum, you will receive the quest titled When Freedom Calls, which asks you to rescue a trapped group of survivors led by Preston Garvey. Battle your way through the barricaded hallways, fighting past remaining Raiders occupying the upper floors. Collecting weapons and ammunition from fallen enemies along the way will keep your supplies steady for the tough battle ahead.

Reaching the top floor allows you to speak with Preston Garvey, who outlines a plan to eliminate the Raider presence in town. He directs you to the roof where a functional suit of T-45 Power Armor and a Minigun await. Equipping this equipment gives you the necessary firepower to clear the remaining hostile forces occupying Concord's main street.

Essential Collectibles and Rare Loot

Beyond its main storyline importance, the Museum of Freedom houses critical collectible items that permanently enhance your character. On a desk in the top-floor room where Preston's group takes shelter, you can find the Perception Bobblehead. Picking up this figure grants a permanent increase to your Perception stat, boosting your accuracy in VATS combat.

Additionally, you should collect the RobCo Fun magazine located on the same desk next to the terminal. Reading this magazine unlocks the Atomic Command mini-game, which can be played on your Pip-Boy or any compatible terminal. Searching containers and fallen Raiders throughout the museum will also yield valuable early-game crafting materials, junk items, and extra rounds of ammunition.

Defeating the Concord Deathclaw Threat

Once you exit onto the roof and step into the Power Armor, drop down to the street level to engage the remaining Raiders. Shortly after the firefight begins, a powerful Deathclaw will emerge from the sewer grate at the end of the street. Maintaining distance and taking advantage of nearby doorway cover prevents the creature from landing devastating melee attacks.

Utilize the heavy firepower of the Minigun to concentrate continuous damage on the Deathclaw's exposed belly, which serves as its primary weak spot. After eliminating the beast, return to the interior of the museum to complete the quest with Preston Garvey. Securing this victory opens up new settlement options and officially begins your journey alongside the Minutemen.
