Navigating the early challenges of Elden Ring can be a daunting experience, especially when facing formidable story bosses. Among the most helpful tools available to new players is Margit's Shackle, a unique reusable item designed to give you a strategic advantage during combat. Knowing how to get Margit's Shackle and where to find it will save you valuable time and help smooth out your journey through Limgrave.
Where to Track Down Murkwater Cave
To locate the shackle, players must venture into the ravines of central Limgrave. Follow the river heading north from Agheel Lake, being mindful of potential invader ambushes along the watery path. On the left side of the canyon wall, you will discover the entrance to Murkwater Cave.
Inside the cave, navigate carefully past the tripwires to avoid alerting groups of highwaymen. Make your way into the back chamber where an empty campfire and an unopened chest await.
Confronting Patches to Unlock His Shop
Opening the chest inside the chamber triggers a boss encounter with Patches, a recurring character in FromSoftware titles. Begin fighting him until his health drops to roughly fifty percent, at which point he will plead for mercy.
Cease your attacks immediately and accept his surrender to spare his life. Afterwards, rest at a nearby Site of Grace or reload the zone to allow Patches to establish his merchant shop.
Purchasing Margit's Shackle
Once Patches opens his shop, talk to him to browse his available inventory. Margit's Shackle can be purchased directly from him for a total of 5,000 runes.
If you accidentally kill Patches during the fight, do not panic. You can collect his Bell Bearing from his body and offer it to the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold to gain access to his shop items.
How the Shackle Functions in Combat and Exploration
When equipped to your item bar, using the shackle during the first phase of the Margit fight pins the boss to the floor temporarily. This gives you an ideal window to land free attacks or heal up, though it can only be activated twice per attempt.
Beyond boss encounters, the shackle emits an invisible wide-area pulse when used. Players often use this secret utility to reveal hidden illusory walls and trigger distant pressure traps in catacombs without taking damage.
